Planned Parenthood Action Fund Cuts Through the Clutter to Reach Independent Women Voters

In the closing days of the midterm elections, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund is helping independent women voters cut through the clutter to really see which candidates are on their side when it comes to advancing women’s health and rights.

Yesterday’s Wall Street Journal noted, “Pollsters say abortion is a particularly effective issue. Unlike the economy, where positions are sometimes hard to distinguish, abortion can present a clear delineation between candidates. And, pollsters say, a candidate's abortion position can serve as a signal as to whether he or she shares a voter's values more generally.”

That is why the Planned Parenthood Action Fund and local Planned Parenthood advocacy organizations have mounted an aggressive, direct voter contact program through Election Day to reach independent women voters and educate them about the stakes in this election when it comes to the issue of women’s health and reproductive rights. This effort includes sending mail brochures to 1.4 million targeted households, telephoning targeted individuals, and canvassing door to door.

“In close races this cycle, women voters are going to make the difference. That’s why candidates across the country are advertising their pro-choice stand.  It’s the clearest way to show women who is on their side,” said Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund. “This is why the Planned Parenthood Action Fund is working overtime to educate women voters about the high stakes in this election and which candidates they can count on to support women’s health.”

The fact is, the combination of a trusted messenger, the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, and a crucial message about women’s health and rights is proven to be very effective when it comes to reaching independent women voters.

That’s also why more and more candidates who want to reach independent women voters are running TV ads on choice, and highlighting their pro-women’s health credentials. Here is a roundup of recent campaign TV ads focusing on choice and women’s health.
