Washington, DC -- Planned Parenthood Votes released a new video this morning with clips from the third and final debate of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump facing off over access to safe, legal abortion.
The two candidates have widely differing views on access to abortion: Hillary Clinton has been clear that she supports access to safe, legal abortion, that she will fight against medically unnecessary abortion restrictions, and that she will work to repeal the Hyde Amendment. Meanwhile, Donald Trump has said he would ban abortion, wants to appoint justices to the Supreme Court who would overturn Roe v. Wade, and even that he believes women should be punished for having an abortion.
The majority of Americans disagree with Trump and want women to be able to access safe, legal abortion. In fact, in last night’s debate, Donald Trump’s statement that he would appoint justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade caused his approval numbers to tank with independent voters. Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton’s support of access to basic reproductive health care at Planned Parenthood and defense of access to safe, legal abortion was her most popular moment in the debate among both men and women, according to a CNN focus group.
