Planned Parenthood Generation Action & Cosmo to Host a Series of “Get it On: The Fearless Talk about Sex, Sexuality, and Culture” Panels
NEW YORK, NY – Planned Parenthood Generation Action and Cosmopolitan have joined together for the month of November to educate college students about sexual health, reproductive rights, sexuality, and the many ways pop culture and politics can impact their sex lives and their activism on these issues.
Each Get it On: The Fearless Talk about Sex, Sexuality, and Culture event will bring together sexual health experts, Planned Parenthood Generation Action student organizers, staff from both Cosmopolitan and Planned Parenthood, and a wide range of students and campus groups from each university. Comedian Amanda Seales will host the events, which kick off today at Fresno State, and will continue at Clark Atlanta University on November 21, and Baruch College on November 24. Condoms and sexual health information from Planned Parenthood on safe sex, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and birth control methods will be distributed.
“We’re so thrilled to partner with Cosmo to bring a fun, open, and important dialogue about sexual health and reproductive rights to college campuses,” said Kelley Robinson, assistant director of Planned Parenthood Generation. “Planned Parenthood Generation Action is all about harnessing the energy, and enthusiasm of young people to share accurate sexual health information and advocate for the issues they care about. College students understand how crucial access to birth control, safe, legal abortion, and accurate, nonjudgmental information is for young people. And they continue to show an unwavering support for Planned Parenthood and our issues.”
With more than 250 campus groups across the country and thousands of individual leaders taking action nationally, Planned Parenthood’s youth and campus engagement program, Planned Parenthood Generation Action, is a movement of passionate, committed young people across identities and issues that organizes with, by, and for their generation in order to achieve reproductive freedom and change the world.
“We don’t shy away from talking about sex at Cosmo, and that includes sexual health. We want our readers to feel they're part of a community where they can ask anything and get an honest, judgment-free, empowering answer,” said Joanna Coles, editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan. “That’s why we’re thrilled to partner with Planned Parenthood Generation Action to bring this discussion to college students this fall.”
Cosmopolitan serves as a resource for accurate sexual health information for its millions of readers. Their November 2014 issue included “The Cosmo Encyclopedia of STIs” which included a description of a variety of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) including common symptoms, as well as personal stories from women with STIs to help correct the wide range of existing misinformation and address the persistent stigma regarding STIs.
