Washington, DC -- House Republicans today advanced a proposal to create a special select subcommittee to investigate Planned Parenthood. The proposal passed this evening. Four congressional committees are already investigating Planned Parenthood, despite the lack of any evidence of wrongdoing. Just last week, Rep. Jason Chaffetz, who presided over the five-hour hearing about Planned Parenthood, admitted that he hasno reason to believe Planned Parenthood engaged in wrongdoing.
Statement from Dawn Laguens, Executive Vice President of Planned Parenthood:
"This is now a five-ring circus — and counting. This is the fifth committee to launch an investigation based on false claims that have been totally discredited.
“It’s become very obvious that this is all part of a political agenda to make abortion illegal in this country. Despite the clear political agenda behind these investigations, we continue to cooperate fully with all of them. We have provided more than 25,000 pages of documents to these committees, and Cecile Richards answered every question asked during nearly five hours of testimony last week.
“As we focus on delivering high-quality health care to millions of Americans, we will continue to make sure that that these committees and the public have all the facts.”
