Local Planned Parenthood advocacy and political orgs to host canvasses, phone banks, GOTV events
Washington, DC ––This weekend, thousands of volunteers will be out knocking on doors and making phone calls at nearly 250 events, to #PinkOutTheVote and elect women’s health champions up and down the ticket on November 8. The #PinkOutTheVote Weekend of Action is Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations’ largest national Get Out The Vote effort to date, with 1,500 paid canvassers and thousands of volunteers participating in canvasses, phone banks, early vote parties, and other events to help get the vote out this November.
The #PinkOutTheVote Weekend of Action comes just over a week before the 2016 General Election. Volunteers will be talking to voters about not just the presidential race, but also U.S. Senate races and other down ballot races in their state.
Quote from Deirdre Schifeling, Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Votes:
“Donald Trump has made this election about how we treat women in this country, and that spells bad news for a number of the Republican Senate candidates who are now stuck defending their yearslong records of attacking women’s health and rights. Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations haveseen an incredible surge of volunteers across the country, excited and ready to work through November 8 to elect women’s health champions up and down the ticket. We’re the ones whose health and rights are at stake in this election, and we will be the reason that we elect Hillary Clinton to the White House.”
Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations have seen an outpouring of support from volunteers this election cycle. Volunteers are enthusiastic to elect Hillary Clinton, who has an unparalleled record of fighting to protect and expand women’s access to health care, and other down-ticket candidates who support reproductive health care access. In Ohio, Planned Parenthood Votes has seen a 126 percent surge in volunteer shifts, since the video of Donald Trump bragging about sexually assault women broke.
Miriam Villedas, Volunteer, Las Vegas, NV:
“For us, this election is personal. Hillary Clinton has been boldly campaigning on her support for women’s health and rights. It’s clear she’s been a champion for women and their families for her whole career and throughout her campaign, and she would be our champion in the White House. When you compare her to the misogyny of Donald Trump, there’s no contest. And it doesn’t stop at the top of the ticket –– too many Republican Senate candidates have the same policies. We deserve better. That’s why thousands of us are out this weekend, talking to our communities and making the difference in this election.”
#PinkOutTheVote is part of Planned Parenthood advocacy and political organizations’ efforts to elect Hillary Clinton and women’s health champions to the U.S. Senate and down ballot. Together, the organizations are running their largest electoral program in history. Through robust canvassing programs, phone banks, direct mail, and ads, Planned Parenthood Votes and Planned Parenthood Action Fund will spend $30 million reaching and educating 3 million voters in North Carolina, New Hampshire, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Reproductive health care is a deciding electoral issue.Recent polling shows that voters in swing states have an overwhelmingly positive view of Planned Parenthood and are less likely to support candidates that have voted to defund the health care provider.
Planned Parenthood Votes is an independent expenditure committee registered with the Federal Election Commission.
