Washington, DC — Planned Parenthood Action Fund released the statement below in response to the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals decision to uphold the preliminary injunction in the Texas v. U.S. case. By upholding this injunction, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals will continue to block commonsense immigration reform that allows families to stay together.
Vanessa Gonzalez-Plumhoff, Director, Latino Leadership & Engagement, Planned Parenthood Action Fund, released the following statement:
“The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals decision to continue to block deferred action programs is deeply frustrating. These programs allow families to stay together a sentiment that we at Planned Parenthood truly support.
“Planned Parenthood’s mission is to make sure all women, men, and families — regardless of income, insurance coverage, or immigration status — receive the health care they need to lead healthy and full lives. The ability to stay together, in the same country, as a family is an integral part of what it means to have a happy and complete life.
“Politicians need to realize that this not a policy issue, it is personal. Undocumented people are our neighbors, our classmates, our colleagues, and friends; they are a vital part of our community. Politicians who stand against these policies stand against American families.
“While this is certainly an unnecessary setback, we know that this is not the end of this discussion. We hope that the Obama administration will appeal this decision and that the Supreme Court will step in to reverse it. We continue to urge Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform —the type of reform that is supported by the American public.”
