Extreme politicians are trying to “defund” and shut down Planned Parenthood health centers, which would have devastating consequences.
The term “defunding” Planned Parenthood is a misnomer. There is no blank check that Planned Parenthood gets from the federal government, and it’s not a line item in the federal budget. Instead, this type of legislation would prevent millions of women who rely on Medicaid and/or other federal programs from accessing the health care provider that’s been there for them for decades. Federal law already blocks federal funding from going to abortion services. This legislation instead blocks people from accessing cancer screenings, birth control, HIV and STI testing, and other preventive and essential care at Planned Parenthood health centers.
For many patients, Planned Parenthood is the only health care provider they see. Blocking access to care at Planned Parenthood hurts communities that are struggling to get by the most, especially those with low incomes, those living in areas with no other quality health care providers, and communities of color who face systemic barriers to care.
This is not what the American people want, and not what they voted for in November. 75% of voters oppose “defunding” Planned Parenthood, and even half of President Trump’s own voters do not want to see Planned Parenthood “defunded.” For the vast majority of Americans, Planned Parenthood is the solution, not the problem, and they don’t want women’s health care to be attacked and politicized.
Here’s are 3 things you can do right now to help us fight back:
Encourage your networks to tell Congress to stop attacking basic health care at Planned Parenthood by signing our petition.
Share this video on what “defunding” Planned Parenthood really means.
Retweet Planned Parenthood Action, and make sure to use the hashtag #IStandwithPP to show your support.
We are prepared to fight like hell to keep our doors open and stop these attacks. Thanks again for standing with us to defend reproductive rights and women’s health.
