Title X funding allowed Rhea to get the care she needed at Planned Parenthood. Trump’s gag rule could strip that funding away.
It’s the kind of news you hope you never get: my routine Pap test results came back abnormal, and my doctor told me I had the most severe kind of pre-cancerous cells. Fear and anxiety filled my body and drowned out every thought in my mind.
But I was lucky. I had great health insurance through my job, so I got the treatment I needed. The doctors told me to come back in six months — but in six months, I’d lost my job and with it, my health insurance.
My follow-up appointment was going to cost $600. I couldn’t afford that, but with my health — even my life — at risk, I couldn’t afford to miss this appointment. So I did what so many others have done over the years: I called my local Planned Parenthood health center, and they got me the treatment I needed at a reduced rate thanks to Title X health care funding. My Pap test came back clear, and I was able to live with the peace of mind that I was healthy.
Like so many patients, I had no idea that Title X was the reason I was able to get treated.
I just knew that I needed to get that Pap test, that I couldn’t afford $600 out-of-pocket, and that Planned Parenthood was there for me when I needed them the most.
Now Trump wants to deny patients the kind of care I got.
Just weeks ago, Trump announced plans for a "gag rule," a dangerous measure designed to make it impossible for millions of patients like me to access the basic preventive care that could have saved my life. He’ll be leaving millions of people without the full range of health care options and forcing us to go without lifesaving treatments.
We need your help! We’re only days away from the administration's deadline to speak out against this dangerous, deadly rule.
Trump’s gag rule is unconscionable, dangerous, and wrong.
Planned Parenthood was there for me when I needed them. Now, I’m standing with Planned Parenthood against these attacks because they need me — and I hope you will, too.
We need you to speak out NOW to stop this cruel policy!
Now is the time to unite, make noise, and make sure everyone gets the health care they want or need — without politicians controlling when, how, or why.
Join us in urging the Department of Health and Human Services to stop this policy!
