Voicemails to Congress: Real People in Support of Planned Parenthood

As Congress convened in early 2017 to debate our health care, people wrote and called by the thousands to stop attacks on our reproductive care and rights. Congressional phone lines were jammed, forcing people to leave thousands of messages.

Today, as the fight for health care reaches a critical point, our senators need to hear from us.

Listen to these stories of why Planned Parenthood matters — and share them far and wide. Get your senators to listen.

I ask you to think about the future generations that need Planned Parenthood.

Good afternoon my name is Mary and I'm from Pennsylvania.

I'm asking that you continue to fund Planned Parenthood for so many reasons. I'm a pediatric nurse. As I say again I also am the grandmother of two little girls and another one on the way.

I'm asking that you allow them and the others that need Planned Parenthood to provide their health care to still be there for them the idea of losing this is just impossible to think about.

And I asked you to think about the future generations that need the help of Planned Parenthood. Thank you

Planned Parenthood afforded me female care at a time in my life when I could not afford [it].

Hello my name's Stella and I'm from Alaska.

Planned Parenthood afforded me … female care at a time in my life when I could not afford health care. Now I'm at a point where I can and I feel very blessed to have had Planned Parenthood in my life and I feel that other women in their early 20s — and even later in life — who cannot afford to go to a, you know, expensive gynecologist should be afforded yearly checkups. Please don't defund this organization that helps so many people. Thank you

It was my only form of birth control and health care when I was 17 years old and through my 20s

My name is Candice from New Mexico, and Planned Parenthood is incredibly important. It was my only form of birth control and health care when I was 17 years old and through my 20s, in Connecticut in Utah and in New Mexico.

It is so important. President Trump and members of Congress: Please do not defund Planned Parenthood — it is the only source of women's health care for millions of women nationwide.

You have no idea how important Planned Parenthood is. Thank you for voting responsibly on this issue.

As a pastor I encounter people and women who need access to affordable health care

This is Reverend Laura.

I am a resident of Colorado, and Planned Parenthood is important to me because as a pastor I encounter people and women who need access to affordable health care and Planned Parenthood ensures that women can be safe by ensuring that they have access to all the reproductive health care that they need.

Even if you're low income you can still go there. Doesn't matter who you are.

Hi my name is Ariel. I'm from Florida.

I support Planned Parenthood because they provide so many services for everyone of all genders — birth control, well visits, STI/STD testing, everything — without judgment, and they care about you. Even if you're low income you can still go there. Doesn't matter who you are.

You can go to Planned Parenthood and receive the utmost quality of care. Please do not defund Planned Parenthood. It is here to stay.

When I was a college student in the 1980s at the beginning of the AIDS crisis, it was one of the few places that was doing free, anonymous HIV testing.

My name is Andrea. I live in Pennsylvania, and I … Planned Parenthood is important to me. When I was a college student in the 1980s at the beginning of the AIDS crisis, it was one of the few places that was doing free, anonymous HIV testing.

And I went down there with a group of girlfriends just … it was … the counselors were fantastic in the ways that they provided support; there was so little information and so little knowledge about what was going on, and they really clear things up and and helped us understand the risks and what it meant to engage in safe practices.

Planned Parenthood provides necessary support and women's health and screening for multiple diseases and maladies that provide service to low income women and women who lack insurance. And it is an essential piece of the health care that is provided in this country. It's also the case that Planned Parenthood's distribution of contraceptives actually has contributed to lower rates of abortion in this country Cutting funding to Planned Parenthood is like cutting off a vital part of your body. We can't afford it in this country. Thank you
